Tom Peterson is a retired deputy chief of police, at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He has 30 years of law enforcement and corrections experience, including 12 years with Maricopa County and 15 years with the Division of Adult Parole Supervision in Colorado, where he worked primarily as a gang and intelligence officer.
Tom has received both BA and MA degrees from Arizona State University, and has a strong interest in education and training. He has taught for several colleges and universities. Tom continues to work part-time as a trainer at the Pikes Peak Regional Law Enforcement Academy, and also writes training and firearms related articles. He is an NRA Law Enforcement Firearms instructor for Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, and Tactical shooting. He is a member of the Shootist organization, which is an invitation only group of gun writers and gun industry professionals. Tom also trains large church security groups in firearms and verbal skills related subjects.
Tom has been married to Lori for 16 years, and they have 5 children. He is a former competitive power lifter, boxer, martial artist, and competitive shooter.
