CORRVALUES S.A.F.E. PROGRAM:
7 STEPS TO PREVENTING SEXUAL ABUSE IN YOUR CHURCH

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND SIMPLE SCREENINGS ARE INSUFFICIENT FOR PROTECTING YOUR CHILDREN

Anybody who gets on the internet realizes that sexual abuse is a significant problem and risk in churches of all denominations.  It seems that a new report of a pastor or church worker sexually abusing a child is a weekly occurrence, and most incidents of sexual abuse never get reported.
S.A.F.E. In Church
Data on the prevalence of this devastating problem exists from many sources, but consider the following small sample of information:
  • US Center for Disease Control, Adverse Childhood Experiences Study:  25% of females and 16% of males experience physical or sexual abuse prior to age 18.
  • Dr. Gene Abel, 2009 study on prevalence of sexual offending:  Each offender on average commits 600 acts of sexual abuse
  • Dr. Anna Salter, sexual offense expert:  Each offender averages 12 victims
  • The Catholic church identified a minimum of 3,000 reported cases in an investigation begun in 2010

CHURCHES MUST RESPOND TO THE SIGNIFICANT RISK OF THEIR CHILDREN BECOMING VICTIMS OF SEXUALLY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR

Safety Certified
The CorrValues Sexual Abuse Free Environment (SAFE) program provides the following program distinctives in achieving the goal of preventing incidents of sexually inappropriate behavior in your church or ministry:
Safety Certified
  • Licensed clinicians with experience in assessing potential sexual offenders actually conduct the screening of your staff and volunteers

  • Screening processes designed by clinical and organizational experts, ensuring they meet HR, organizational, clinical, and legal requirements

  • SAFE Program components include background checks, staff and volunteer screening, certification, staff and volunteer training, parent training, church facility and program safety system, annual updates

  • SAFE Program components alert and detect potential predators, while remaining invisible to those attending your services and programs

Dr. David Stephens
The SAFE Program was developed and is implemented by Dr. David Stephens, President of CorrValues, LLC.  Dr. Stephens has been responsible for the sexual offender assessment and treatment programs in three states.  In these roles, he has trained parole officers on sexual abuse screenings and assessments, overseen the assessments for identifying sexual offenders and sexually-violent predators, and overseen the treatment programs for sex offenders.  Additionally, he has assessed potential sex offenders for multiple County Child Protective Service Agencies.
